The ambience over here is 'dragonish' at the moment, and we have decided to delve into the history books in order to bring you some snippets about one of the mostly studied imaginary creature that ever 'existed'- the dragon.
Facts about Dragons
- The word 'dragon' was coined from the Greek word 'drakontos' which literally means 'giant seafish'. The word is also used to refer to any serpent of tremendous size.
- Morphologically, there were dragons that had wings, and those that were wingless. The interesting twist to this, is that while some wingless ones could fly; some that had wings could not fly- isn't that weird?
- Dragons had magical powers. Examples of such (abilities) include being able to summon the rain, and also enchanting humans.
- Dragons were fastidious creatures. Every dragon gave so much attention to its grooming needs- keeping the tough scaly skin clean was a top priority.
- Dragons have a variety of diets: some preyed on other animals and some fed on humans. The sea dragons were said to have been really selective in their choice of food- they fed on human virgins, and would choose to starve [even to death] than settle for anything less. And according to legends, the Chinese dragons have never been interested in food as they are believed to be 'celestial' creatures.
- The blood of some dragons were found to be poisonous. However, scientists have come to discover how the blood of a particular 'dragon' could be of immense benefit: the Komodo dragon's blood has some antibiotic properties- there's no myth in this.
